Czech out the area.......

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Rep. and with a population of over 600,000, offers a nice variety of cultural and night life, too. Although not comparable to Prague in beauty, Brno has a nice old town center pedestrian area and the people are so friendly that I'd venture to say that Brno will make just as nice an impression! Located in the wine region of Southern Moravia, Brno is only about two and a half hours away from Prague and even closer to Vienna, Austria and Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Brno is also very near the Czech Karst region, a geographically fascinating area filled with caves to be visited, great hiking and fantastic views. Add the large number of castles in the area to that, and you can see that there’s definitely a lot to do and see around Brno!

The cost of living

is much lower than in Prague or western Europe; a good meal can be had at a normal restaurant for between $2.00 and $3.00 US and a small furnished apartment runs from between $140.00 and $170.00 US The average teacher presently earns from two to three times the average Czech salary, so is easily able to afford living here. Basically, due to the weak currency, you probably won't get rich working here, but you will be able to live comfortably and have enough money to travel around the area. Because teachers are paid by the hour, salaries are not only based on your experience and qualifications, but are also greatly dependent on how many hours you choose to work. Teachers at the Boland School choose their own schedules at the beginning of each school year, so how much you work depends on how you arrange things with the school. Most teachers feel comfortable working about 25 hours weekly.
